Perhaps its just me [Jul. 25th, 2007|11:48 pm]
But I seriously think that the guy playing Ozymandias should look like he's older than twelve. But perhaps thats just me.

http://www.aintitcool.com/node/33449

Also we all know Carrot Top is the perfect person to cast as walter kovacs. Seriously. Freckles. Freakishly ugly. Red hair. Way too many muscles on such a small frame. But I digress...

I will say though that if they wanted to be serious Jeff Daniels would be Nite Owl II. Seriously, this is a movie about mid-life crisis. Shouldn't the people playing the parts be old enough to actualy experience them? A key factor in the Watchmen comic was that these were heroes that were past their prime. They had become older, sadder, defeated and wierd. It was a defining factor. To cast a bunch of pretty young things seems so completely wrong. I'd really hate to see something so good as the Watchmen get made into anything that was remotely mediocre, let alone bad.

For those of you what like comics and literature [Aug. 21st, 2006|06:28 pm]
Sole this from comicbookresources.com:

Ian Rankin, crime novelist and author of such titles as "Knots And Crosses," adapted as the "Rebus" TV series for the BBC, announced at the Edinburgh Book festival that he is to write a comic book project for Vertigo.

Further investigation reveals it is a John Constantine project, with Constantine pitched as a pulp-fiction style private eye who happens to deal with supernatural clients.

I understand the introduction happened through current "Hellblazer" writer Denise Mina.

Ultimate Avengers [Feb. 21st, 2006|01:34 am]
So I watched the Ultimate Avengers movie tonight. Animation was well detailed, but sloppy at times. The fight scenes had a little zip to them, but all in all I would have to say that the movie is aggressively mediocre. Can't hold a candle to JLU to say the least.

Atleast he knows proper gun safety. [Feb. 12th, 2006|04:41 pm]
ASSOCIATED PRESS

WASHINGTON — U.S. Vice-President Dick Cheney accidentally shot and injured a man during a weekend quail hunting trip in Texas, his spokeswoman said Sunday.

Harry Whittington, 78, was "alert and doing fine" after Cheney sprayed Whittington with shotgun pellets on Saturday at the Armstrong Ranch in south Texas, said property owner Katharine Armstrong.

Armstrong said Cheney turned to shoot a bird and accidentally hit Whittington. She said Whittington was taken to Corpus Christi Memorial Hospital by ambulance.

Cheney's spokeswoman, Lea Anne McBride, said the vice-president was with Whittington, a lawyer from Austin, Texas, and his wife at the hospital on Sunday afternoon.

Nice! [Feb. 11th, 2006|08:30 pm]
Stolen from Newsarama:
In an unexpected announcement at the DC panel (though not coming as a complete surprise), it was just announced Grant Morrison will be the next regular writer of Batman, following James Robinson’s eight-part story arc running through that title and Detective beginning in March.

Though not announced or even confirmed, popular rumor and speculation still holds that one of the DC exclusive Kubert brothers will eventually be announced as his artist.

Morrison said that he’s already plotted 15 issues, and in his first issue alone, he has 15 ninja man-bats as well as Talia, and the story is called “Batman & Son”. Morrison said Batman coming out of 52 OYL will be a more of a “fun guy, more healthy”, more like the “Neal Adams, hairy-chested, love-god” version of Batman.

So Gretzky's wife, by guilt through association so is Gretzky, not to mention a bunch of other NHLers. All because of gambling, but not gambling on hockey. Seems like a really stupid scandal to me. Who amongst you has never gambled? The only reason they are in trouble is because the government didn't get their cut. The fact that these people could have gone to a casino and done this legally, but since they didn't it is illegal strikes me as pretty silly.

That is all.

Did I miss that memo? [Jan. 26th, 2006|02:27 pm]
So everyone and their cousin has ben talking about the Canadian peoples decision to give a limited mandate to Harper. That we wanted change, but weren't too sure about the Conservatives, etc.

Now maybe I just missed the memo, or nobody likes me, but I have zero recollection of getting together with the rest of the country and mapping out who would vote what in order to get our idealized parliament voted in. I am pretty certain that pretty much everyone voted for who they wanted based on little more than personal opinion and perhaps discussions with those that they know.

Am I wrong about this? Did I miss the memo? Does everyone hate me? I am pretty sure they don't...

[Jan. 22nd, 2006|11:05 am]
I have been frequently thinking during this election how different our elections would be if there was a law in place banning the use of political ads across the board. No attack ads, no ads of any kind. But not only that, what would it be like if the use of opinion polls was outlawed? No ads, no polls.

As more than a few people have pointed out to me far less people would be voting in each election. This is invariably portrayed as a negative, I am not entirely so sure. If someone is basing the fact that they vote, as well as whom they vote for on opinion polls and 30 second sound bites, well maybe they shouldn't be voting?

Wouldn't it be far more valuable to have more public debates? Not only a greater amount of debates, but debates where it is not honed down to one or two hot button topics. If you as a political party are not entirely aware of the sorts of information that becomes very apparent through polls, well I am willing to bet you would have more parties attack a greater deal of subjects. Rather than this rather simplistic election of "Ohh Liberals corrupt!" or "Ouch! Conservatives evil and scary!" or "NDP? Freaky hippie socialists!"

How many people in this country right now are basing their votes strictly on the basis of whom they think will win or what ad struck them as the most "true"? Do we even want these sorts of people voting?

What if as well as more than two national debates (per language) there was one a week? What if there were also televised local debates? Its not like the technology to allow people to get debates based on ridings doesn't already exist through local cable, etc.

I just cannot help but think that our political elections amount to little more than a short run popularity contest, and they seem to become more shallow and empty with every passing year.

Obviously this musing is not a concrete solution, or anything other than musing really, but I cannot help but think that this is exactly the sort of election reform that we as a nation should be looking at. It also strikes me as exactly the sort of reform that would never even be seriously considered by the powers that be. After all our political parties are all geared towards running a race based on our current system of rules.

Now if only these figures would arrive at my door...

Apperantly after some digging and calling around my package has actually been held up at customs. Yup. Nothing like paying for fast ship so they can stop it and let it sit around for a while halfway through its voyage... Makes you sort of wonder why they bother using planes anyways...

Annoyed [Jan. 20th, 2006|01:50 pm]
You know whats fun? Paying extra money for something to be quickshipped and having it now be a week late. Canada post has been zero help. They tell me that my package has been "out for delivery" for almost a week now so it should show up any day now. Fun. When might it show up? Dunno. But its meant my entire day off today has been spent waiting around the house.

Bastards.

Confused... [Jan. 14th, 2006|02:17 pm]
So as everyone knows right now I am sure Harper seems to be in cruise control headed towards atleast a minority government. This has me very confused. Now I am also sure everyone here knows that I am not a great supporter of the right wing (veiwing it as being the closest thing to evil we have in politics here). What I don't get is that Harper seems to be gaining support from the sorts of people that will suffer from his rule. From everything I have seen Harper will be bad for those earning low incomes. Harper will also most likely be bad for those that live in cities. Harper will be bad for those with small children as childcare support from the government will virtually vanish. Yet there are undoubtedly a great many people that will be literally paying for this who are supporting him.

Now I understand that there is a great deal of dislike for the Liberals for a variety of reasons (Martin being a bumbling leader being just one, and corruption being another). Do any of you think that is the only reason Harper has managed to capture this momentum. Do any of you think that people are just seeing the dollar signs he is flashing and ignoring, or failing to look any closer at what his plan entails? Why are the NDP continually lagging so far behind? What is wrong with the sort of politics that they represent if so many people are refusing to give them a chance? Why do the sort of people that could directly benefit from their platforms seem to ignore is in favour of one that would seemingly harm them?

The more I think about this election the more and more I become convinced its little more than a popularity contest. You would think based on their platforms the NDP would be able to gain some concrete ground amongst urban dwellers, that the Conservatives would find the same sort of support near impossible to find. Yet the opposite seems to be true.

More Harper bashing! [Jan. 10th, 2006|11:13 am]
When asked what he would do to fix the failing infrastructure of public transit in Canada, which included as part of the question the fact that a tax cut doesn't really help this problem, the only thing Harper mentioned other than the fact that he is offering a rebate to those that buy a monthly pass he was looking at spending money on highways. Yup, nice quality forward thinking. Highways. I shit you not. To then hear people calling into the CBC saying that they will vote for the man because he sounds honest makes me want to cry or scream or hit things.

We should pass a law stating that Tax cuts in and of themselves should never be used as campaign pledges. Watching the debate last night all I could see Harper promise was that he was going to give people money. Oh and Liberals are corrupt.

Whatever happened to the good old days when Conservatives may have been regressive but they were atleast fiscally responsible?

So... [Jan. 10th, 2006|08:59 am]
Near as I can figure Stephen Harpers campaign plan consists of "Vote for me and I'll give you money!"
